ADULT LITERACY AND NUMERACY
WHY?
Although secondary education is becoming more widely accessible to both men and women in Kenya, many are still left without critical literacy, numeracy and livelihood skills. Our adult literacy and numeracy programs started as a direct response to community needs. Parents were unable to read report cards or sign permission slips. Others were unable to compose a text message, apply for jobs, or communicate with their co-workers or boss. Simple everyday chores like reading a medicine bottle label, filling out a job application, or understanding a traffic sign are impossible for those who cannot read or write. Equipping the members of our community with literacy skills helps to reduce the cycle of poverty, improve public health, and advance human rights.
OUR RESPONSE.
The Leo Project's adult literacy and numeracy programs aim to provide individuals in our community with the critical skills necessary to improve their daily lives. In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, it is crucial for individuals to possess basic literacy and numeracy skills to function effectively in society. Our programs not only teach reading, writing, and numeracy skills but also provide a safe and supportive space for adults to learn and grow.
By providing access to adult literacy and numeracy programs, The Leo Project is investing in the long-term success of our community. Our daily programs serve as a pathway towards greater self-sufficiency, economic empowerment, and social mobility. Ultimately, our adult literacy and numeracy programs help to break the cycle of poverty by empowering individuals with the skills they need to succeed in life.
