The Caitlin O’Hara COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC - JOB OPENINGS
THE LEO PROJECT
Started in honor of Caitlin O’Hara, The Leo Project is a 501c3 community-based organization that believes equitable access to education and healthcare is a human right. We believe in sustainable impact, community-driven efforts, and moving away from “Band-Aid” solutions. We are piloting, implementing, and sustaining programs as a means to unite, empower and - most importantly - drive social change. The Caitlin O'Hara Community Health Clinic is our newest initiative.
THE CAITLIN O’HARA COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC
WHAT?
The Caitlin O’Hara Community Health Clinic will deliver equitable, sustainable, free and low cost health services to the community through providing holistic outpatient care, as well as facilitating outreach programs. The clinic, designed in partnership with Build Health International, will focus on maternal and child health, and will also provide services for primary health, nutrition, mental health and sexual and reproductive health. To complement the community health clinic and expand our reach, the outreach programs will bring prevention, screening and treatment services to the community, with a focus on health education.
WHY?
We are resolved to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and improve health outcomes in the communities surrounding The Leo Project. Kenya has a shortage of well-equipped, community-based medical facilities to deliver primary health care to those most in need. Poor road conditions, limited access to transportation, and under-resourced clinics and dispensaries impede access to quality care. We are striving to change this with the Caitlin O’Hara Community Health Clinic which is also equipped to offer ambulance services to the community. We are committed to filling the gaps in providing much-needed access to mental health and sexual and reproductive health services.
WHO?
Clinic services are open to all community members - men, women, youth and children. Our outreach services will focus on providing education and services to the harder-to-reach and more vulnerable population groups of women and children in the community.
WHEN AND WHERE?
The Caitlin O’Hara Community Health Clinic is situated at The Leo Project’s headquarters which is located 20 minutes outside of Nanyuki, Kenya.
HOW?
The clinic will start by providing outpatient services and will offer antenatal and postnatal clinics, child nutrition assessments and immunizations, primary health care, sexual and reproductive health care, psychosocial support and mental health services. With both a pharmacy and laboratory, the clinic will be able to provide comprehensive services, where patients will have access to tests, investigations and medicines that meet their health care needs. And in an effort to improve the accuracy and completeness of medical records, reduce the risk of medical errors and improve patient safety an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system has been developed. The EMR system will be used throughout the facility by staff members at every point of care to facilitate better communication and coordination among healthcare providers to provide a more timely and effective service to patients. Through an adjacent platform, patients will be able to access their medical information, empowering them to take a more active role in managing their health. In partnership with Build Health International, the Leo Project envisions the Caitlin O’Hara Community Health Clinic expanding to become an inpatient facility with a focus on providing maternity care.
We are committed to meeting the needs of our community which are dynamic, thus our approach is likely to evolve over time in line with the community.
