scene + heard: nanyuki to the world

While the world is afloat in visual content, the voices and messages of marginalized youth often don’t find a platform and the emphasis in social media is on quick sound bites designed to get ‘likes’ rather than communicate experiences and stories in a more meaningful manner. The Leo Project (TLP) wants to change this paradigm.

TLP’s Scene + Heard project engaged youth in Nanyuki, Kenya to create films on topics that reflect their interests and that told Kenyan stories through Kenyan voices. The project provided the emerging filmmakers with equipment, skills, and confidence to share stories about Nanyuki through their own lens. The result is six short films that express the perspectives and artistry of youth in communities that are underrepresented in the global content-sphere. The Leo Project believes that Nanyuki has the potential to become the creative arts and tech hub of Kenya and these films prove it to be possible.

We encourage you to view these films. And, stay tuned for exciting content and opportunities coming out The Leo Project’s Media Lab.
