YOUTH LiFE SKILLS
WHY?
Kenyan youth face a difficult job market with new entrants into the workforce outnumbering the opportunities available to them each year. (KIPPRA 2024) This is reflected in the low youth employment rate which was 13.5% in 2022. Additionally, many youth lack relevant work experience and the cognitive, technical, socio-emotional, and business skills required to be productive. The 2019 Kenya Continuous Household Survey also found women significantly more likely than men to be neither employed nor in school, with women representing 59% of those inactive and 74% of those who were Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET).
OUR RESPONSE.
The Leo Project empowers youth in our community through education and mentorship, aiming to equip them with essential tools for leadership and social impact. We supplement traditional education with a Life Skills program with consideration of the Kenyan educational system’s competency-based curriculum. We work with over 2,000 students across ten primary and secondary schools within Laikipia County. By empowering both girls and boys, we strive for a more equitable society where every young person can thrive.
