MOBILE HEALTH CLINICS

Why?

Many within the more rural areas of Laikipia County lack transportation to The Health Clinic. This lack of access The Health Clinic means many people in more rural communities will wait to seek care until an issue escalates, and many women will not seek care throughout their pregnancy.

Our Response.

Through The Leo Project’s Mobile Health Clinics, we bring prevention, screening and treatment services to the harder-to-reach and more vulnerable population groups within Laikipia County. Through regular community outreach, we evaluate and reevaluate the needs of our neighbors, consult with community leaders, and gather feedback.

Monthly, TLP sets up a mobile health clinic in one of the villages within our catchment areas (Jua Kali, Mukima, Murumati, and Naibor). We connect with village leaders in advance of each visit to ensure alignment and help with promotion. The mobile clinics also allow TLP staff to identify individuals requiring additional care and refer them to our clinic. To reinforce TLP’s holistic and intersectional impact model, the mental health and the climate and conservation teams are on hand to discuss relevant issues with the community.
