Meet Wangechi
As the newest member of The Leo Project team, Wangechi will be leading all of our initiatives concerning girls and women. Such include reproductive and sexual health, female empowerment, our Girl Boss program, etc. Born in Nyeri, she moved to Nanyuki in 2018. After university, she was working at nearby Mpala Research Center. Following her time there, she started her own conservation initiatives that were funded by National Geographic. She is most passionate about environmental conservation and community outreach. She is most peaceful meditating near flowing rivers or in forests and is an aspiring chess player.
Zodiac Sign? (It’s The Leo Project, we had to ask)
I am a Gemini - very social and adjustable.
Where do you seek inspiration?
Family, friends, music and motivational podcasts/books
How do you stay grounded?
I have learned to have a heart of gratitude for the little things in life and to be positive in all situations.
Who do you admire and why?
Definitely Wangari Maathai. She literally fought a good fight. Her strong-willed spirit and determination to fight for what you love and what is right is something I really admire about her.
How do you start your day?
I start my day with a prayer and meditation on what I want to achieve by the end of the day and what needs to be done. This somehow gives me confidence to face the day.
Coffee or tea?
Tea, anytime.
Favorite book or podcast?
My current favorite is Goal Digger Podcast by Jenna Kutcher. It gives inspiration on how one can make unrealistic goals (by our own definitions) realistic and how to be a girl boss
Do you have any words you live by?
“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t - you’re right.” -Henry Ford
What is the best advice that you have ever received?
My late grandmother always told me to strive for happiness no matter what. With all that’s going on globally right now, her words are more than relevant to me. I strive to do what makes me happy to drift away from negative energies.
Pet peeves?
Littering and running taps!
What is your spirit animal?
Giraffe. I find it so graceful.
If you made a documentary, what would it be about?
Impacts of humans’ actions on the environment.
